The Lentil Collective are a three-piece folk and folktronica band from Cape Town, South Africa. Chris Davidson, Die Baard van die Baai, brings his experienced voice and acoustic guitar. The Devonian Nick Jones’ wide array of stringed toys and pedals, including guitar, mandolin and violin, keep things interesting and unexpected while the fat-string fanatic Stephan Willemse’s bass guitar glues it together. Their music is reputed to make moonshine beans sprout and moonlight bushes quiver. An Intimate Acoustic Performance at THE COTTAGE CLUB Saturday, 10^thMarch 2012 @ 7pm

 Heather Mac has had an illustrious music career spanning over two decades, starting in South Africain the 80’s with rock band, Ella Mental, through the misty hills of Ireland, the sunny side of LA and the glacial lakeof Montreux. Since her return to SA in the early ’90s she has been honing the songs that feature on her new album.

 After a busy 2011, with the launch of her first solo album, a successful run at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown and dozens of performances around the country, Mac is back in thePeninsula, kicking off her 2012 programme with a performance at the Cottage Club.

.She will be accompanied by guitarist and co-producer, Mark Harris and joined by her daughter Amber, who is a talent to be watched closely.

 Bill Knight opens the Cottage Club’s year with a smaakie  of his Kaape Mengsel - Songs of Local legend, including a Preview of his current Work ( almost ready to launch)    “Old Dogs – New Tricks”.  He will be joined on-stage by James Hall, Violin Virtuoso, who will also delight us with his mastery of Classical, Celtic, Balkan and Russian Folk-Tunes. Lauri Levine & Lize Wiid

Laurie Levine is a singer-songwriter carving out an original niche in contemporary folk music. Her exciting blend of American roots music and the ‘Nu-Folk’ sound has earned her critical acclaim and a growing audience. She has twice been nominated for a SAMA (South African music award) in the best Adult Contemporary category and she has just returned from the Grahamstown arts festival with a Standard Bank silver ovation award for her performances there.

Laurie Levine’s voice fuses childlike playfulness with maturity, a combination that evokes a wide range of emotions; a voice that is simply unique in its ability to engage the listener. Laurie’s catchy folk tunes are reminiscent of what you’d expect to be coming from world class contemporary folk acts the likes of Katie Melua, Lucinda Williams, Alison Krauss, Diana Krall and Emmylou Harris.

She is joined on stage by the dynamic multi-instrumentalist Lize Wiid, whose main instruments are keyboard and accordion. Her haunting backing vocals enhance the hypnotic quality of Laurie’s songs, and her accordion playing creates a rich sound reminiscent of French music. She is well known for the role she plays in the Radio Kalahari Orkes with Ian Roberts and she has performed on some of the country’s biggest stages.

Laurie Levine’s third album Six Winters has just been released through Rhythm Records. ‘Six Winters’ sets a new benchmark on the South African scene for production standards, arrangement and songwriting in the female vocal genre. The combination of Laurie’s characteristic songwriting and producer Dan Roberts’ unique engineering and dedicated production flair is cutting new territory and could very well head up a new movement leading us towards a rekindled appreciation of the power and the role in society of female story telling through music.  www.laurielevine.co.za
