Emma-Jean & Tanja Storm at Cottage Club

Emma-Jean is a 19 year old indie folk singer-songwriter from the ‘deep south’ – as she often likes to tell her audience when introducing a song, specifically about this area. Emma-Jean started playing guitar around the age of 11, when she was inspired by watching her mother play. From there she started playing around with words that led to lyrics, and then soon enough, lyrics that became full songs.
In 2015 she placed part of the top ten in the Barleycorn’s Annual Songwriters’ Competition, later coming third in 2016 – which was the same year she won Hectic Nine 9’s ‘Shine Nine 9’ competition, that aired on SABC2.
Currently Emma-Jean is working on some recordings, which she hopes to be available a little later this year.
Like many of the artists Emma-Jean is inspired by Brandi Carlile, Tracy Chapman, Alice Phoebe Lou, Jennifer Eaves and many more. She believes in the truth of song writing, words that matter – songs with a core.

Tanja has always been musically gifted. From a young age, she was singing, performing, and playing a variety of instruments. Throughout the course of her musical career, Tanja has won over the hearts of music lovers from all walks of life; performing at a variety of venues, making loads of public appearances, all the while recording new music.

Born in Melkbosstrand, Cape Town, South Africa, Tanja relocated to the quieter, scenic Garden Route. This active performer can be seen at various shows and music festivals, weddings and special occasions throughout the Garden Route and beyond.

She was playing keyboard since the age of seven and took classes in both music and modern dancing.
She continued her studies in both these fields and started to perform as keyboard player and backing vocalist for different bands since 1999 where they performed at weddings and other functions.
Spurred on by the positive reaction of her audiences, Tanja decided to give her music career her all.
Seeing that Tanja was subjected to so many music styles during her music education and performances, the only choice she had to make was to decide what type of music she wanted to dedicate her energy to. She subsequently released her first CD in 2009 (The CD includes the music video: “Te vergeefs.”) “Te vergeefs” can be viewed on KykNet and YouTube.
